My youngest kidlet really does enjoy heading over to Lowe's on a Saturday morning, donning his store-provided apron that is now adorned with patches of completed projects he's done. The items that the kids can make are simple enough yet challenging enough to grant a sense of accomplishment. My favorite projects are the ones that, upon completion, are actually a game (ball toss, baseball pinball). My son's favorites are the ones he makes for others, and I'm not just saying that! The things that he has made and is able to give as gifts really are the projects he is most excited about.

My only qualm with this activity is that the Lowe's staff members that run the workshops are not necessarily interested in helping kids. They're fine with the tasks of checking kids in, handing out the project bags, awarding patches, but to walk around and help the children is just not something I've ever seen any of the staff do....more
