Put on your holiday sweaters, some comfortable shoes, and don't forget the camera!
The all-day Downtown Extravaganza begins with Breakfast with Santa at 8am at the Senior Citizens' Center. Seating is available until 11:30am. Purchase $5 tickets well ahead of time by calling (209) 571-5582.
Walk off that big breakfast by heading down to the Dickens Faire at the McHenry Mansion (15th Street, between I and J Streets), which will be decked out in its Victorian-era holiday splendor. Costumed carolers greet holiday revelers, stories of Christmases past will be shared with enraptured audiences, and children may decorate gingerbread houses, make ornaments, and create holiday cards. Another special treat: the Farmer's Market will be open and stocked with local fruits, nuts and veggies as well as some lunchtime fare. Both the Dickens Faire and the Farmer's Market will be open from 9am to 3pm.
The Celebration of Lights Parade will begin at 5:30pm, at the corner of 15th and I Streets. The theme this year is "Holidays in Whoville". Floats, marching bands, color guards, horses, clowns, firetrucks covered in holiday lights will parade past the McHenry Masion and Museum, the Courthouse and the Gallo Center for the Performing Arts.
