Decorating sugar cookies has never been easier! Greens Market and Pastry Chef Dawnelle had absolutely everything needed for an afternoon of fun: delicious sugar cookies, royal icing in a variety of colors, piping bags, sprinkles, sanding sugar, and more. All supplies were on the table and available for anyone at almost anytime. Extra cookies were out of the immediate work area, but children were welcomed to leave the table and get more as needed.
The children I toted to the store — four of them, aged 6 to 9 — were a little overwhelmed in the beginning, wishing they could create perfectly iced cookies like the chef. Chef Dawnelle calmed their worries and praised their efforts in a way that always seemed genuine. She moved around the table, helping each and every child at the event.
After we had help boxing up four dozen cookies for four happy children, we left the market — and the MESS! — and once buckled into seats, each of my cookie decorators said it was a 'way fun' activity. When Greens offers kids classes in the future, we will definitely be attending....more
