The Modesto Certified Farmers Market runs April through December each year.  Support local farms, small neighborhood businesses and enjoy starting off the morning with a stroll down the Market's lane!  Tons of fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts, eggs and cheeses are peddled...  Morning pastries, fresh bread, local honey and more fill the stalls...  It's a foodie's paradise.

Saturday mornings at the Market typically include live musical entertainment and deliciously food demonstrations by local chefs or vendors.  Check the calendar for more details.

The market will be opening even earlier this year: first, a ease into the season, only Saturdays in April, then the market will resume its regular Thursday & Saturday morning schedule the first week of May.

During the summer and early fall months, hitting the Modesto Certified Farmers Market on Saturday mornings is a family tradition. With the incomparable selection of fruits, vegetables, breads, nuts, and ready-to-eat foods, it's easy to spend a couple of hours at the market; wandering from vendor to vendor sampling their wares is the kids' favorite part.

My children learn that not only are healthy foods readily available, the foods are grown locally. Living in a rich agricultural area means that when supporting our area's farmers, we're also supporting our friends and neighbors. The kids understand now that our food budget money is staying within our county, helping farmers keep their farms, helping artisans keep their homes.

Besides making it easy to shop for the week's veggies and fruits, the market makes Saturday morning breakfast a treat. Some of the kids' favorites: strawberry and whipped cream crêpes from The Crêpe Escape; Killer Bacon or Fruit Gallette (made with seasonal fruits) from Greens Market; and breakfast burritos available from a few different vendors. My treat: hot chai from Mohini Indian Fusions, and if she's got Puris made, I always buy a package (or two!).

Bathrooms are not available at the market — make sure the kids go before leaving the house. Parking is sometimes a rough go: while the library lot is open for parking, I typically do not find parking there if we go anytime after 9am, so I park in front of McHenry Mansion and walk to the market.
