Tent camping at Pinecrest is an annual summer tradition for our family of five. There's nothing too rough about "roughing it" in Pinecrest when there's a general store, espresso bar, restaurant and outdoor movie theater within walking distance of the campsites, but the creature comforts are what really set this mountain lake resort apart from others.

There are campsites galore, with five different loops to choose from, but loop D is our first choice, since it's the nearest to the lake and outdoor amphitheater. (Don't worry, it's not so close you'll feel like you have to be concerned for a wandering toddler to head for the beach.) Some sites are pretty close together, and on our first trip to Pinecrest, we walked the loop and took note of which sites we would want to camp at and which ones we would want to avoid.

The pay showers are located near the General Store, just across from the main entrance to the campground. (All other amenities, barring the theater, are right here, too.) They are smallish... Attempting to bathe more than oneself and a child is not a good idea. Tokens are available for purchase at the General Store, and as of 2010, the showers would run for about 12 minutes before automatically shutting off.

Fishing, boating, hiking and biking are all activities that can be easily enjoyed on or around the lake. The list of "to-do's" are never accomplished; our family will always run out of time rather than activities at Pinecrest!

We love camping at Pinecrest. It's a yearly summer trip for our family and we always catch a movie. Last year, we saw Toy Story 3 the day it came out in the theaters, but we got to watch it under the stars. Our family loves taking a hike around the lake and renting a partyboat to cruise around the lake. However, word of warning: lock up your ice chests at night. Last summer, a group of teenagers would sneak in and steal ice chests in the middle of the night....more
