Founded in 1958, Roaring Camp Railroads was opened to restore two railway lines that wind through historic trees and coastal mountains.
The Redwood Forest Steam Train is a 75 minute train excursion through a virgin redwood forest. Roaring Camp's narrow-gauge steam engines date from 1890 — at one time used to haul redwood logs — and are some of the oldest running engines providing passenger service in the country. The Santa Cruz Beach Train runs from Roaring Camps, through Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, down a river gorge, over a truss and through a tunnel before pulling into the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Please view the timetable to plan the three-hour roundtrip excursion and make the most of a visit.
Reservations may be made online.
Many special events take place at Roaring Camp Railroads throughout the year, including Civil War Re-enactments, Train Robberies, the Summer Gathering of Mountain Men, a Children's Ghost Train, arts & crafts festivals, evening and holiday excursions.
