The Sacramento Zoo is wildly inspiring!  Exhibiting over 400 animals belonging to over 140 species on 14 acres of land, the zoo has been chock full of fun for kids and adults alike since 1927.

Having moved beyond showing as many animals as possible and instead focusing on education, conservation and recreation, the zoo prides itself on maintaining exhibits which promote the well-being of the animals while allowing the public to learn as much as possible about the animals.

At the Sacramento Zoo, visitors will find a full cast of felines, an Australian Outback, a wide array of fine feathered friends, a fully occupied Reptile House, and an amazing Giraffe Encounter.  The Giraffe Encounter is the new exhibit featuring the Tall Wonders viewing deck, where for an additional $3, visitors may feed the giraffes!

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:

  • The zoo has an event calendar to check out prior to your visit.  Special events are listed here, like the fabulous Family Overnight Safari.
  • Fun facts and trivia are available for your very curious junior zoo visitors.
  • Several online games will reinforce the new knowledge acquired at the zoo.
  • Located near Lake Victoria, the Kampala Café serves hamburgers, hot dogs, veggies burgers, sandwiches, salads and more and is open year round.  The Savannah Snacks stand is open seasonally near the Tall Wonders giraffe exhibit with a similar but more limited menu.  Menus are available online.

We took our daughter her for her birthday. It was the first time she had been to the zoo. Maybe now that we are adults we are more aware of the conditions of things. ALL the animals looked miserable! The enclosures are far to small and half the animals were not in there area to be seen. I guess I am partial to Marine World were they actually interact with the animals and get them exercise and play time. The best part was the giraffe area. The food was not the best either. I don't believe we will be back. Fresno zoo will be our next outing. They have elephants and my daughter loves elephants....more
