At Stonehenge, children are invited to climb the walls!   Rock climbing is great exercise and is a confidence builder for all ages, and can be done safely at Modesto's only indoor rock gym. Stonehenge boasts over 4,500 square feet of climbing surface with walls ranging from 25 to 40 feet high.

First-time climbers will need to take a belaying class, teaching the safety basics of climbing and spotting a climber.  This is included in the $20 first-time climb fee.  Once this class has been passed, a belaying certificate is issued, and future climbs will be $12.  Although a pair of sneakers will suffice, climbing shoes can be rented.  All costs are listed here.

A 24 foot tall portable wall is available for rent and can be trucked to any party, reunion, youth group function or picnic.  Stonehenge offers group or party rates as well.

Discounts are available for those with a valid student ID.  Monthly passes also available, and are a bargain for families that enjoy climbing Stonehenge often.

Hours of operation: Monday-Friday, 6-10pm; Saturday, 2-8pm.

I think the other reviews covered the climbing experience and I do not disagree with that, it is a lot of fun once you get the hang of it.

Fun activity to do with kids or grown-ups. Though, go during the day (weekend) if you have kids with you because the neighborhood is very dark at night. They could use a few more lights and some better signs in that parking lot.

I have not been with children, mine are still too young. But, I did go with a group of ladies for a Moms Night Out. After you get the lesson on belaying, you are ready to rock. I was a bit intimidated at first, but, by the of the night, I felt like I was really getting the hang of it. It was great exercise and we had a blast!

What a fun way to work out and work together! Our entire family went to Stonehenge — yes, even the Kindergartener, who simply "free climbed" on the lower hand grips of the walls — and had a blast.

As stated above, the first time we went, we needed to learn to belay. (Safety first!) Once that was under our belt, it was all systems go. The owner was patient and very involved in the instructing process, ensuring participants not only knew what was to be done but also why it needed to be done, which I appreciated.

All the gear needed to climb is available right there at the front desk. Wear comfortable clothes — no jeans — and dress in layers, as the business is in a warehouse and is quite breezy. While climb shoes are helpful and can be rented, regular tennis shoes will fit the bill.

What makes this a must-see, must-do activity is that it's a super family-friendly, just-get-up-and-go sort of thing that gets both the kids and adults active and engaged.

I went here with my two kids (ten and eight at the time). We met some friends with their children about 5 months ago. All of us had a great time. The owner/instructor showed how to put on harnesses, belay properly, and explained the proper terminology to use (pay attention to this lesson because once you get it you are good to explore and climb away). After a couple of times practicing we were climbing and having a great time. Kids were helping parents, parents were challenging each other, and kids were racing to see who could get to the top.
I would definitely go back again.
