I agree with the previous reviewer that they do try to make it fun & engaging. My free spirited 2 yr got bored really fast, she is the type that can't sit still very long and needs to really be engaged, and just wanted to go back and play with the train set in the corner.

The story leader, as I dubbed her, reads 1-2 books depending on how the kids are taking it, a visiting character may be there to say hello and take pictures with, maybe a break for coloring before the next book, or skip the 2nd book entirely.

My feedback to the store would to be to read a story about the visiting characters if there is one. For example today's visitor was Maisy (who I will admit, I've never heard of before today) and the book was about a caterpillar and goose.

This was our first time going, it was a small group with just a handful of kids of various ages. If you have a child that can sit through about 5 minutes of reading then go for it. And if your child is like mine, just not too into the story, then grab a coffee at the Starbucks, and hang out at the Thomas the Train set in the back corner. Your kids can still have great interactions with other children and get help reenforce the lessons of sharing....more

Barnes & Noble does try to make story time a fun time for most ages. Often, coloring pages or activities will accompany the Saturday story times, and sometimes even a snack is handed out.



My young children most enjoy when there is a character visiting during the Saturday story time — I think this is once a month. A few years back, we had an awesome Polaroid collection of my daughter — then three years old — with Cat in the Hat, the pig from "If You Give a Pig a Pancake", Clifford, Chrysanthemum, and more. ...more
