Columbia State Historic Park — once a bustling, brawling gold rush town — sits at an elevation of 2,100 feet amongst the oaks of the Sierra Nevada foothills.  In the mid 1800's, the town of Columbia was one of the largest cities in California, attracting people from other US states as well as other countries with promises of gold.  In fact, between 1850 and the early 1900s, as much as $150 million in gold was mined in Columbia.

Held at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds and sponsored by the Mariposa Kiwanis Club, the annual 4th of July Old-Fashioned Celebration and Fireworks takes place on Sunday, July 3, 2011.

Festivities begin at noon and continue until 7pm.  Enjoy free access to water slides, games, music and more.  Food and drink vendors will be offering items for purchase.

Fireworks stands open at 7pm, with the colorful celebration beginning at dusk.

Rancho Cordova's All-American Fourth is a two day celebration of our nation's birth! With carnival and fireworks displays set for both July 3 and July 4, 2011, your family is sure to have fun.

From 2pm - 8pm each day, the Kids Zone will be open and beginning at 9:45pm, a mini-fireworks display is scheduled for July3 and a Fireworks Spectacular is scheduled for July 4.

The all-day Downtown Extravaganza begins with Breakfast with Santa at 8am at the Senior Citizens' Center.  Seating is available until 11:30am.  Purchase $5 tickets well ahead of time by calling (209) 577-5344.

Nosh on pancakes with Santa and create some fun holiday crafts.  Pictures can be taken with the big guy in the red suit for just a few dollars more.  The City of Oakdale and the Kiwanis Club of Oakdale is sponsoring this event which is being held at the Gene Bianchi Community Center, and tickets are available at a discounted rate at the Recreation Department, or call by calling (209) 845-3591.

The Modesto Symphony Guild presents Breakfast with Santa, held at the E&J Gallo Administration Building. 

Yummy breakfast foods include french toast sticks, scrambled eggs, orange slices, and juice. The Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra, Dance Factory, and the Choralettes will provide dine-in entertainment. Ticket cost includes photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

If you've lived in the Modesto/Ceres area for any more than a couple of holiday seasons, it's likely you've already paid a visit to Ceres' Christmas Tree Lane, located off of Moffet Road.  But what you may not know is that there is an annual kick off event at the nearby Smyrna Park to mark the official beginning of the Christmas Tree Lane neighborhood lighting.
