Columbia State Historic Park — once a bustling, brawling gold rush town — sits at an elevation of 2,100 feet amongst the oaks of the Sierra Nevada foothills. In the mid 1800's, the town of Columbia was one of the largest cities in California, attracting people from other US states as well as other countries with promises of gold. In fact, between 1850 and the early 1900s, as much as $150 million in gold was mined in Columbia.

Ages: 1 and up
One of the oldest traditions in Modesto, Concert in the Park happens every Thursday evening throughout June and July. The Modesto Band of Stanislaus County performs at 8pm, however many families gather long before that to enjoy a picnic dinner. There are no specific activities for children during the evening, unless you count the numerous ice cream trucks that stop by!

Expressions Choirs is a local youth vocal group. Students in 1st-3rd grade can join the Choralettes. The Choralettes rehearse on Mondays 3:45-4:30pm. 4th-12th graders can join Chorale, rehearsing on Mondays 4:30-5:45pm. Vocissima (7th-12th grades) is and auditioned ensemble and must also be enrolled in Chorale. Vocissima rehearses on Mondays 6-7pm. Click here for information on registration and tuition.
